English as a Second Language, 2016
Aly earned a Masters in Economics from University Nanterre in Paris, France. He has family in Canada. As a native French speaker, Aly wanted to improve his English language skills. He is now focused on securing a career in the financial sector.
Aly Kaba’s career path has taken him from his birthplace in Africa to Paris, to Montreal and finally to his new home in Edmonton, where he hopes to build a successful life for his family.
Aly’s first language is French. He left his home country to study in France at the renowned Université Paris Ouest Nanterre La Défense, where he received a Masters of Economics in 2010. But the European debt crisis took a toll on the job market, so Aly decided to immigrate to Canada.
After living and working in Montreal for a year, Aly decided there were more career opportunities in Edmonton. But he also knew that he would have to improve his English language skills if he wanted to succeed in the world of finance. On the recommendation of his family and friends in Canada, he enrolled at NAIT.
Aly found NAIT’s English as a Second Language (ESL) courses for newcomers helped him feel comfortable right away. “NAIT’s ESL program helped me overcome challenges, both language and cultural, and helped me easily transition into my new environment," he says.
The program provided Aly with the social and life skills – and much improved language skills – to ease the move into his chosen career.
Aly graduated from the program in April 2016 and is currently seeking career opportunities in the field of finance and economics.
