Bachelor of Business Administration - emphasis in Finance
As a child, Valerie Ngu enjoyed accompanying her grandfather on his regular trips to the bank. The pens chained to high counters, heavy vault doors and business people in suits left a lasting impression on her.
Those childhood memories that sparked a desire to become a successful businesswoman led her to the JR Shaw School of Business.
Learning at NAIT
She’s now studying in the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) with an emphasis in finance. “Small class size is a big reason why I came here,” says Valerie. “I get hands on help with my classwork and I get to know my instructors who encourage me to contribute.”
Valerie is already applying her learning outside the classroom as the President of the Investment Club Of NAIT (ICON), where students practice stock trading, grow investments and visit workplaces to learn more about careers in the industry.
She’s also competed in NAIT’s internal business case competition, where she worked with a team to analyze and present a business solution.
Favourite NAIT space
“There are so many great spaces in the Centre for Applied Technology for students, I love having flexibility so I can switch up my study areas.”
“It is real-life experience in which you get to assess a business, develop approaches and apply what you’ve learned from different classes, and bring them all together. It helped me grow confidence in my business analysis skills.”
Valerie’s plans once she completes her BBA, is to pursue a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation and later a Master’s in Business Administration. “Ultimately, I want to become an equity analyst, someone who helps determine the value of a company’s stock and financial future” she says. “Finance is like putting together pieces of a puzzle to help businesses grow and you get to work in a range of different industries.”
