NDT CGSB Level 2 - RT/UT/MT/PT
Being multi-ticketed in Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) has given Neil Weston the opportunity to live a life he couldn’t have imagined when he began his career as a 19-year-old trainee. Today, as President of Anode NDT Ltd. in Grande Prairie, Alberta he wears many hats. To keep his operation running efficiently, he serves as office administrator, radiation safety administrator and NDT technician.
Back when he was a NDT trainee, Neil’s boss told him that to earn more money, Neil would need to become a certified Exposure Device Operator. It didn’t take him long to heed his employer’s advice – 2 months later, he was certified.
Since then, he has continued to develop his skills through NAIT Continuing Education courses and has received all NDT Level 2 certifications.
"Attending NAIT’s Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) courses gave me the skills and confidence to become the best in my field. Now I’m the president of my own company.”
Neil believes in being multi-ticketed and encourages his staff to take the training. “Having a ticket and knowing what you’re doing are two completely different things,” he says. “In the end, the education will make you a better tech.”
As a way of leading by example, Neil is now working on completing his Level 3 training.
When asked for advice to give to current or prospective students, he says “Listen to what the instructors teach you book your government exam as soon as possible so you retain what was taught and If it’s been a while since you were in the classroom, take a workshop to brush up on the information before taking the exam.”
