About Structured Part-Time Pathways
What you need to know about Structured Part-Time Pathways
Our Structured Part-Time Pathways model allows busy professionals to work during the day while they complete courses towards a medical credential during the evenings and weekends. It can also give parents added flexibility to provide care for their children. It is important to note course MELA1196 (Clinical Training) requires full-day attendance for 7 weeks in an assigned clinical setting.
Thanks to a set schedule of 2-3 courses a term, our students study with the confidence of knowing they will acquire the skills and knowledge they need to be successful in the workforce, and graduate as quickly as possible. While intensive, this schedule is designed to allow students to fully absorb the information and balance coursework with everyday life.
All of our courses are taught by medical laboratory experts with industry experience in the real world who take pride in the quality education NAIT provides, and the success of their students.
Due to the compressed and part-time nature of the Structured Part-Time Pathway (SPTP) schedule, SPTP students may not be eligible for benefits afforded to full-time NAIT students.
Ensure you are aware of the financial aid and student support services available to you before enrolment.
Depending on the course load for a given term, you could be eligible for student aid. Find out more by contacting the NAIT Student Service Centre:

Scholarships and Bursaries
Most scholarships, bursaries and awards offered by NAIT have course load requirements that will make SPTP programs ineligible. Students taking at least 9 credits in a given term are eligible to apply for bursaries, while an 80% course load is required to apply for scholarships.

Due the part-time schedule of this program, students will not reach the tuition cap during the semesters. In these cases, tuition is charged on a per-credit basis.

Academic and Career Advising is a service we provide to ensure our students are prepared for success in meaningful careers. Before you enrol in any NAIT program, it is recommended you speak with an advisor to ensure the program of your choice aligns with your personal educational and career goals.

International students and study permits
Due to the compressed and part-time nature of the SPTP program, the schedule of evening classes will not meet the minimum number of credits required to maintain a valid study permit through the Government of Canada’s immigration and citizenship branch. If you are an international student (not a citizen or a permanent resident of Canada), there are many other options for you to study at NAIT.
