FAQ's

What kind of jobs can I expect to get after graduation?

You could be working anywhere where there are aircraft doing either Line Maintenance or Heavy Maintenance on large or small aircraft or installations of avionics systems on aircraft or troubleshooting systems on the bench. If there are aircraft you will be using the skills you learned to test repair or troubleshoot electronic or electrical systems on aircraft.

How many intakes are there for this program?

There is one intake at the end of August each year.

I don’t have Pure Math 30. Will I still be accepted?

Applicants presenting other math courses such as the previous Alberta Learning designations of Math 30 and Math 33 will be considered on an individual basis by the registrar. Math updating or upgrading may be required.

Am I required to do a career investigation to enter this program?

Currently, a Career Investigation is not mandatory. However, we strongly recommend that all students complete a Career Investigation before applying to the program. This investigation prepares students for the program they will be undertaking, and giving them an understanding of the career they will enter once they graduate.

If I have work experience in the industry, am I automatically accepted?

No. You must meet the academic prerequisites to enter this program. Your industry experience will be an asset to you while you are in the program, however.

Is this a demanding program? Can I work part-time?

We do not recommend that students work part-time. This is an intense and comprehensive training program with 30 hours of class time per week and, typically, just as many hours of homework. Attendance is key to your success in this program. Since most courses are in a lab/lecture format, it is easy to get behind if classes are missed. Be as prepared as possible, both financially and academically (for instance, by taking a math refresher course), prior to commencing your studies. Take advantage of time management and study skills programs offered free to NAIT students through the counseling office.

What do I do if I am interested in the the program but do not have all the prerequisites?

Upgrading is available through the NAIT Pre-technology program. Individual courses are also available through College Preparation. Contact the Pre-Technology program at 780.471.8534 or upgrading@nait.ca
