Buddy System

The NAIT Buddy System provides an opportunity for prospective students to spend a day teamed with a NAIT student, attending classes and laboratory sessions, asking questions and experiencing NAIT first-hand. The Buddy System is available between September and April each academic year.

Info Sessions

Program info sessions are held during NAIT's Info Week in February of each year.  Another opportunity to learn about the Respiratory Therapy program is NAIT's Open House. The 2010 Open House will be held October 1, 9 am to 3 pm, and October 2, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

FAQ's


What prerequisites are needed for the program?

For full details, check the program website under entrance requirements.  The prerequisites are English 30-1, Biology 30, Math 30 Pure or Applied and Chemistry 30.


What is the competitive average to get into the program?

The candidate will be marked on the following: 40% interview, 40% marks and 20% Career investigation.  The program specific career investigation form may be obtained by clicking the link.  For the 2009/2010 academic year, the competitive average for the prerequisites was 75%.


Can my university courses be used as part of my prerequisite average for admission instead of high school marks?

Yes if the course is substantiallly equivalent, the Registrar's office will use the better mark.


Can I receive credit for courses that I have already taken?

The student must be accepted into the program before credit is given.  Only courses in the first semester will be considered. 


What CPR and first aid level is required for admission?

For now, any level CPR and first aid is acceptable.  However, prior to entering the hospital practicum, the student will be required to obtain their Basic Life Support for health care providers (BLS for Health Care Providers from Alberta Heart and Stroke Foundation).


Does the Respiratory Therapy program accept any applications after the March 31st deadline?

No. As the Respiratory Therapy program is heavily oversubscribed and the process for choosing prospective students is quite lengthy, the application deadline is firm.


Does the Respiratory Therapy program have a January intake?

No, there is one intake per year, in September.


What is Accreditation?

Accreditation is "the process by which a private, non-governmental agency or association grants (national) public recognition to an institution, program of study or service which meets certain predetermined standards, as determined through initial and subsequent on-site evaluations."

The accreditation process, in effect, provides public assurance that the individual, as a graduate of an accredited program, has been adequately prepared to be able to carry out a specific range of duties.
