Delivery Options

Classroom or Lab Setting

Year 1 - classroom lectures, lab and clinical sites for practical application

Year 2 - classroom lectures, lab and clinical sites for practical application

Year 3 - primarily clinical rotations

Classroom and Study Hours

Average Number of Hours in Classroom:
During Year 1, students can expect to spend an average of 30 hours per week in class.
In Year 2, students can expect to spend about 35 hours per week in class.
In Year 3, students will spend approximately 40 hours per week in class.

Average Number of Hours of Study Outside of Class:
Students should expect to spend a minimum of 10-15 hours per week studying.

Co-op & Work Experience

Clinical RotationDates:
Professional Experience (observation rotation) occurs near the end of Year One in March.

Clinical Rotation I occurs in Year 2 in April.

Clinical Rotation II occurs in Year 3.

Clinical Rotation III occurs in Year 3 from August to December.

Length:
Professional Experience - two weeks
Clinical Rotation I - two weeks
Clinical Rotation II- 16 weeks
Clinical Rotation III - 16 weeks

Type of Experience:
Students rotate through a variety of clinical rotations in hospital and home care settings. Rotations include:

  • Adult intensive care
  • Neonatal intensive care
  • Pediatric intensive care
  • Home care
  • Surgical suite
  • Wards

Students must complete competency-based objectives and are evaluated on their performance in rotations and post-rotational written examinations.

Salary:
Since clinical rotations are part of the educational experience, salaries are not paid to students.

Relocation:
Any relocation expenses incurred for practicum placement are the responsibility of the student.
