NAIT Certification

Diploma in Denturist Technology

Pre/Post Graduation Affiliation

Upon completion of the program, graduates are eligible to apply to the College of Alberta Denturists to take the provincial registration examination. Approximate Cost:   Examination $1200.00;  Initial Registration $2800.00.  Graduates are also eligible for membership with the Denturist Association of Alberta and Denturist Association of Canada. for a fee.

Upon graduation, the provincial regulatory authority may require a security clearance or a criminal records check prior to registration and issuance of a practice permit.  Cost of this check is at the student's own expense.  Please note that failure to clear could prevent the student from being eligible for registration.

Attributes of Successful Graduates

The successful graduate will show empathy and concern for patient welfare, be an effective time managers, enjoy patient interaction, show keen attention to detail in denturist work, and exhibit a strong desire for lifelong learning.

Advanced Credit Possibilities

Graduates of the NAIT Denturist Technology program are eligible for credit toward:

  • NAIT Bachelor of Technology in Technology Management (BTech)
  • Athabasca University Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Science - Human Science degree
  • Thompson Rivers University Bachelor of Health Sciences degree
  • Memorial University of Newfoundland – Bachelor of Technology (1 year of post-diploma studies)
  • University of New Brunswick - Bachelor of Applied Management

Professional Association Courses

Provincial associations, regulatory colleges, and the Denturist Association of Canada offer ongoing continuing education courses as a part of mandatory continued competence requirement for practising denturists. Dental manufacturers, supply companies and NAIT all offer seminars and courses on new products and procedures as they are introduced.

The following is a partial list of major activities that a graduate of Denturist Technology can undertake:

Patient Management
  • Communicate with patients regarding treatment options, treatment and post-treatment care.
  • Accurately chart and document treatment.
  • Schedule and manage multiple patient cases.
  • Maintain a patient recall system.
Removable Denture Construction
  • Pour impressions and prepare casts for complete and partial dentures.
  • Prepare registration devices.
  • Position teeth for complete or partial dentures.
  • Process dentures using various techniques.
  • Finish and polish dentures.
Clinical Procedures
  • Assess patient's oral condition.
  • Recognize and refer pathological conditions in the mouth and surrounding area.
  • Diagnose and develop a treatment plan and design therapy.
  • Make preliminary and final impressions.
  • Register jaw relations.
  • Evaluate a wax trial denture.
  • Insert and evaluate the completed prosthesis.
  • Perform post-insertion care.
  • Fabricate surgical templates for use with immediate dentures.
Denture Relines and Repairs
  • Make impressions for relines or repairs.
  • Reline or repair dentures.
  • Finish and polish dentures.
  • Insert and adjust completed repaired and/or relined denture in the patient's mouth.
