Additional Requirements and Information
Students in this program must have basic computer literacy, which includes basic word processing, spreadsheets, Internet and e-mail.
The post-graduation work environment requires sitting for long periods of time. Any prospective students with serious back, arm or neck problems or significant health challenges should consider this carefully before applying to this program and are advised to consult the program chair.
Students are required to act as patients for fellow students in a clinical setting. Official documentation from a physician or dentist must be presented if a student does not wish to act as a patient. Without official documentation, the student will be ineligible to continue in the program.
English Language Requirements
As English is the language of instruction in all programs at NAIT, you must have an adequate knowledge of written and spoken English as a prerequisite for admission. Regardless of country of origin or citizenship status, you must demonstrate English-language proficiency prior to being accepted. For more information regarding English requirements, please go to the following site English Language Proficiency.
Prior to the first day of classes, students are required to have a current Standard First Aid Certificate and a CPR certificate that includes the following:
It is strongly advised that students complete this requirement prior to attending orientation.
Immunization Requirements
Once accepted into the School of Health Sciences, students will be given an immunization requirement form to be completed by their physician, public health nurse or health professional. Your immunizations must be up to date prior to orientation. Your completed immunization requirement form must be submitted at your program's orientation in August.
Don't wait – start updating your immunization today. You will need immunization against tetanus and diphtheria, polio, measles, mumps, rubella, varicella (chicken pox), Hepatitis B (including Hepatitis B titre), and tuberculosis screening. Failure to do so will prevent you from participating in program activities and clinical placement.
A copy of your records may be obtained from your local public health clinic or physician’s office. If you received your immunizations in the Alberta Health Service Capital region, you may contact them at 780.413.7985.
For further immunization information, please contact NAIT Occupational Health and Safety at 780.471.8733.
Student selection is competitive and based on criteria that may include academic achievement beyond the stated minimum prerequisites. An assessment of your Career Investigation will account for 30% of the selection criteria. It is mandatory to submit a Career Investigation.
There are two full-time student places for Saskatchewan residents who meet the normal admission requirements for the program.
Application Deadline
The deadline to apply for this program is March 31, 2010. Your application must include all required supporting documentation (e.g., Career Investigation report and transcripts). We encourage you to submit applications in advance of the application deadline, as early acceptance may be offered to highly qualified applicants.
The Career Investigation is a report applicants prepare as part of the student selection process for many full-time programs at NAIT. Your Career Investigation must accompany your program application.
Advanced credit can be awarded in the School of Health Sciences at the request of a student.
