Motorcycle Rider Safety Training

Program Model / Completion Requirements

How does it work?
This course is designed for all riders that have never taken professional rider training. Regardless of current skills, this is the best place to start if you’ve never ridden a motorcycle or you’re returning to the sport. Upon registration you will be sent an at-home study guide that includes a training manual, information and location map.

When training is completed you will have the option to take the Class 6 motorcycle practical test and are able to use our motorcycles. In accordance with new regulations on-road testing is mandatory. Students will need to purchase a testing permit from any Alberta Registry. A Class 6 on-road test will then be scheduled for students wishing to test.

Prereqisites are listed on the course pages.

Training time - 16 hours

  • 14 hours on-motorcycle
  •  2 hours Class 6 Licence preparation. The new 2009 Class 6 skills evaluation is available on our motorcycles from our course site. The testing process will be explained in detail at the time of your course.

Motorcycles for training are supplied by NAIT; however, you are responsible to provide your own riding gear.  Required riding gear is listed on the course pages.

What you’ll learn
Expert certified instructors will guide you through motorcycle basics such as balance and control, downshifting and upshifting, hand and electric signals, counter steering (push steering), acceleration and deceleration, both in straight lines and in curves, straight line braking, braking in curves, emergency manoeuvres in curves and straight lines, collision avoidance, emergency braking and acceleration.

Our course is specially designed to adapt to the students' needs after the basic components are discussed, demonstrated and then practiced. Our instructors have taught thousands of students who enter the course with different levels of experience. All of our Instructors are professional motorcycling experts.
