When is the application deadline?

We recommend applying as early as possible to ensure you are accepted. Remember, a Career Investigation must accompany your application.

To begin the program in September (fall semester), we recommend you apply by March 31. The Registrar's Office starts reviewing applications for September in the middle of January, so the earlier you apply, the greater the chance the program will have available spaces. If you apply after March 31, your application will be considered if space is available.

To begin the program in January (winter semester), we recommend you apply by November 1. The same cautions apply for the winter semester as for the fall semester. You may apply before you have completed your current schooling. Conditional acceptance may be granted; however, full acceptance depends on completion of your studies.

Can I enter directly from high school?

The first two semesters of the Business Administration - Human Resource Management program are prerequisites for the last two semesters. Admission into Semesters 1 and 2 as a full-time student is possible by applying to Business Administration - Year 1. Students who complete Semesters 1 and 2 are then eligible to transfer to Semesters 3 and 4 of the Business Administration - Human Resource Management program. Students can complete Semesters 1 and 2 through NAIT's Continuing Education courses. These students apply directly to the program chair for admission into Semesters 3 and 4.

Is there an enrolment target?

No. However, there are quotas and limits for full-time student enrolment.

What if I am interested in the program but don't have all of the prerequisites?

Upgrading is available through NAIT's 12-week Pre-Business program. Individual courses are also available through College Preparation. Another option is to start your studies through Continuing Education. If you complete the five Year 1 courses listed below, you can apply for direct entry into Semester 2 of Year 1.

What is the approximate cost of books and supplies for this program?

It will cost approximately $800 to $1,100 for books and supplies per year. Some books may be available secondhand.

How do I apply for financing?

See Fees and Expenses for more details.

How many hours a week will I need to devote to my studies?

Please see Delivery Options for more details.

Given the 40 hours per week for my studies, is it a good idea to work while I am in this program?

Our counsellors suggest that a full-time student not work more than 10-15 hours per week. Any more than that will make it difficult to balance work, studies and leisure time.

What hours will I be in class during the day?

We have two sections of classes:

Section 1:
Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 12:10 p.m., and every Tuesday and Thursday from 12:20 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Section 2:
Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 12:20 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., and every Tuesday and Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 12:10 p.m.

What marks are required in courses?

Courses are graded using the alpha grading system. D is considered a pass. However, student course marks and overall averages are extremely important. Some employers recruit prospective employees based on academic performance. In addition, those who wish to use this program's courses towards another program in this or another institution must have a minimum average of C+ or B.

Do I need a computer as a student in the program?

No. Any coursework requiring the use of a computer is scheduled into NAIT computer labs. However, access to a computer outside of NAIT labs does offer students flexibility to complete work.
