OVERVIEW
The Bachelor of Applied Business Administration - Accounting is a four (4) semester post diploma applied degree program. An applied degree is a credential developed by Alberta Learning in response to a need to prepare Albertans for the changing economy. This degree offers graduates of eligible diploma programs at NAIT, SAIT and other Alberta colleges the opportunity to develop the advanced accounting expertise and management skills needed in the expanding and demanding field of financial operations management.
FLEXIBLE COURSE OPTIONS
This program has a number of full-time, part-time and distance course options to meet the diploma requirements. The academic course requirements may be completed on a part-time basis through evening classes. The entire degree may be completed without leaving full-time employment.
PROGRAM MODEL
This program is part of a four-year program delivered over eight semesters. The first two years of this program is a Business Diploma. The next two years consist of two academic terms and two directed field studies (DFS) terms which are completed while employed in a paid full-time accounting position. The student is responsible, with advice from the program and NAIT Student Career Services, for procuring employment in the accounting field during these terms.
During each DFS term, students are enrolled in five DFS courses designed to link the academic courses to relevant employment experience through the preparation and presentation of papers and attendance at residency sessions. Before entering the first DFS semester, the student must have as a minimum, successfully completed at least five courses including ACCT301, ACCT302, ACCT303 and TAXX304.
NAIT students can also progress into the Certified General Accountants (CGA) program of professional studies, or take senior courses within the pre-professional program of studies for the Society of Management Accountants (CMA) program.

COURSES
Note that these courses fill quickly, as early as a month before the course starts. To avoid disappointment in taking the course of your choice, you are advised to enrol early.
If you are working full-time, taking more than one degree course at the same time is not advisable. These are heavy courses which require significant self-study between classes. Taking more than one course per session often leads to unsuccessful results.
Electives: Must include one of E-Commerce or International Business. Two semesters of Directed Field Studies (DFS) are also required for degree completion.
COURSE MATERIALS
Effective August 1, 2009, course materials for all degree courses listed in this section will no longer be purchased through CGA Alberta. Course materials must now be purchased through the NAIT bookstore. A list of required materials will be available at the NAIT bookstore two weeks prior to the course start date. You may purchase these online or in person. Check the website at www.nait.ca/onlinestore.
EXAM POLICY (P/T)
The final examination will be held on the last date of class unless otherwise specified on the website or in class by your instructor. Midterm examination dates will be posted on the website when available and will be announced in class. Exams must be written in class on scheduled dates.
Exceptions may be accommodated if the reason is valid and acceptable to the Program Chair, and documentation, such as medical record or hospital admittance, is provided. Work commitments as well as business or personal travel are not considered acceptable reasons for examination deferral.
