When time commitments or distance make it impossible to come to class, you can feel as though there are too many barriers to reach your educational goals. NAIT recognizes the challenges you face. Whatever the barrier is for you, NAIT has the options in learning to meet your needs.
WebCT (Blackboard CE6)
- An Internet connection is all you need. Join the class at its scheduled time to participate ‘virtually.’ Be part of class discussions, and get to know your fellow students while you learn along with them. If the time is not convenient, log in afterward. You can view and print notes, catch up on the discussion, and apply what you're learning with hands-on exercises and quizzes.
Web Conferencing
- Via the Internet join students from around the world to participate in a class or attend a conference. View and listen to presentations or lectures and participate using Voice over IP (Internet Protocol) or instant messaging. Conferences are recorded so if you're on the go, you can view the conference later on.
Correspondence Courses
- Learn at your own pace with a correspondence course. Correspondence allows you to study independently, but with the support of an instructor. Correspondence courses are paper-based and supplied with printed modules, textbooks, or other reference material.
Computer Managed Learning (CML)
- Computer Managed Learning at NAIT often uses The Learning Manager® (TLM) to develop, deliver, and manage learning material that is tailored to your individual needs. Some CML courses also provide opportunities for you to meet with an instructor for extra help.
- Computer Managed Learning in apprenticeship courses use Individual Learning Modules (ILM) as a resource. ILM provides learning material developed according to the validated competencies of Alberta Apprenticeship training.
Blended Learning
- Blended learning combines the best of online and face-to-face instruction. Learn the theory at a distance then attend a class to put the theory into practice.
