FOR NEW STUDENTS

The Goal of Alberta Works is to help unemployed people find and keep jobs in their communities, help Albertans with low income cover their basic costs of living, and help employers meet their need for skilled workers.  Each year NAIT is given an allocation to assist Albertans that have a demonstrated need for training and financial assistance.

Alberta Employment and Immigration (AE&I) offers Skills Investment programs under Alberta Works to provide employment and training services for adult residents of Alberta who are:

• unemployed
• financially disadvantaged, and
• in need of training to obtain and maintain sustainable employment.

Due to an increased demand by students accessing Alberta Works Funding while attending  training in the areas of Training for Work, Academic Upgrading and ESL there is no further full time funding available for these students for the 2009/10 academic year.

Students should be encouraged to come to the Financial Aid Office to discuss other funding options while attending training.

Please be sure to check back in the Spring 2010 to obtain further information regarding Alberta Works (SIP) funding.

chances of returning to the workforce. Eligible EI recipients may be provided with up to 104 weeks of regular EI benefits, which can include up to 12
weeks of benefits following training completion to facilitate job search.

The Severance Investment in Training Initiative is a temporary initiative that was announced as part of the 2009 federal government budget. The
objective of this initiative is to support unemployed long-tenured workers who have received separation money
