Alberta Works Funding
Important Note - Full-Time and Part-Time funding (ESL and Academic Upgrading) for the Spring 2015 term has been depleted. If you would like to explore Alberta Works funding for Fall 2015, you must submit a NAIT Alberta Works Assessment form May 25, 2015 or after. Once the assessment has been reviewed you will be contacted via email advising you of your next steps. Please Note - Alberta Works Skills Investment funding is limited, provided on a first come, first served basis and each eligible program has a limited number of seats. Funding must be approved prior to training start date therefore so Students must apply early with complete documentation or they will not be considered.
The Alberta Works Part-Time Skills Investment Bursary, administered by Human Services (formerly AEI), provides financial support of up to $5,000 per academic year for qualifying adult residents of Alberta who are attending part-time training.
A key initiative of the Alberta Works program is to increase part-time training opportunities for Albertans; to support them to gain the knowledge and skills to obtain sustainable employment, increase their income and reduce their need for government support.
The part-time initiative is designed to assist:
- Low-income employed Albertans who require further skill development to maintain employment, increase earnings and to be self-sufficient, and
- Low-income unemployed Albertans who are employment-destined and assessed as unable to participate in full-time training and will benefit from part-time training.
Alberta Works Part-Time Skills Investment Bursary eligibility is determined by Human Services.
You must discuss your eligibility for part-time funding with an authorized official and be recommended for training before submitting a Skills Investment Bursary Application form.
Please note: Alberta Works Skills Investment funding is limited, provided on a first-come, first-served basis. Funding must be approved prior to training start date so Students must apply early with complete documentation or they will not be considered.
Part-Time Funded Student Responsibilities
Once you have been approved for funding you must maintain your eligibility. You do so by passing all class(es) you have been funded for. If you do not pass your class(es), you must use your own resources to repeat the course and provide confirmation that you attended and passed before you may be considered for further funding. It is important to note that funding is not available to repeat course(s) previously funded on a part-time Skills Investment Bursary or on a full-time Skills Investment Grant.
If you have any questions about your responsibilities while receiving Alberta Works Learner Income Support, please contact a NAIT Financial Aid Specialist.
