Will my sessions be confidential?

The Student Counselling Service operates under strict rules in regard to keeping your sessions private and all your records secure. Your counsellor will not pass on any information to NAIT staff, friends or family, or to anyone else who asks about your attendance. We will not let anyone know if you are seeing a counsellor, or even if you have booked an appointment. There are two reasons your counsellor MIGHT pass information on: 1- You have requested that your instructor, or someone else, is notified of specific information discussed with your counsellor. You will need to discuss this and sign an agreement with them in order for your counsellor to pass on any information. 2- Your counsellor may contact necessary third parties if they think you pose a danger to yourself or to someone else. Please be assured this will done in rare occurrences and only at your counsellors’ professional discretion. Please feel free to discuss this in more detail with your counsellor.
