NAIT’s Dale-Marie Cumberbatch sets new standards

NAIT Ooks scoring machine Dale-Marie Cumberbatch set two more Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference scoring records on the final weekend of the 2008-09 season.

By collecting 28 points on Friday and 36 on Saturday in back-to-back losses to the MacEwan Griffins, Cumberbatch elevated her season total to 651 points, an average of 27.1 per game. The season total erased the one-year standard of 620 she established last season.

She also holds ACAC marks for most two-point field goals and most successful shot blocks in a season.

Her scoring total this year included a record 196 free throws, 10 more than the standard she created one year previously.

With two years of college eligibility remaining, the 20-year-old native of Edmonton holds the ACAC career scoring record of 1,873 points.  Cumberbatch has been invited to try out for the Barbados national team.

Her highest single total this year was 41 points Jan. 24 in a 91-72 loss to the King’s College Eagles. One week later, she hit for 40 as NAIT bowed 74-69 to the Augustana Vikings.

NAIT, which finished with four wins in the 24-game schedule, already has recruited high school stars Keisha Gordon of Ross Sheppard and Mercedes Cromarty-Moodie of Archbishop O’Leary, as well as Denise Boye-Owosu, a three-year Concordia Thunder regular, for next year’s team.
