NAIT moves to more efficient business model

May 14, 2009 – NAIT has announced that it is changing the business model within its Power Plant and Maintenance & Operations units, from one that presently has a mix of internal employees and external contractors, to a full deployment of an external contractor in the future.

The move to the use of an external contractor is being made to achieve greater operational efficiencies; increase flexibility, so that the appropriate type and number of trades people can be on site for particular maintenance jobs or projects; and implement a consistent approach to facilities maintenance, which in the past has been a mix of internal and external resources.

There are a total of 23 positions which are no longer required as a result of this change, affecting 7 employees in the Power Plant, and 16 employees in Facilities Maintenance and Operations.

“This was a difficult decision,” says Terry Wald, Director, Human Resources. We understand the effect that it has on these employee and their families and we are grateful for their service over the years.”

NAIT has communicated directly with these employees, and is committed to working with them to provide assistance through this transition.
