June 22, 2009 – Up against some tough competition, NAIT's technology lifestyle magazine -- techlife -- was named Best New Magazine Friday by the Western Magazine Association at its 27th Annual Western Magazine Awards in Vancouver.
Alberta Home, Goats Across Canada, Up Here Business and Yukon, North of Ordinary were also nominated for the award.
"This is an exceptional accomplishment by a great team," says techlife editor Sherri Krastel. "The quality of the work continues to stand out against the best not only post-secondary, but the Canadian publishing industry as well."
Techlife magazine was launched in October 2007 to tell stories of people, technology and innovation from one of the country's leading institutes of technology, and has received a number of recent recognitions including:
Kristen Vernon, managing editor, and Derek Lue, art director, were present to accept the honour.
The editorial team, which includes several NAIT alumni, is outlined on the techlife magazine masthead and can be read at http://www.techlifemag.ca/.
