Habitat for Humanity now part of NAIT program curriculum

WHAT: Students from NAIT’s Architectural Technology and Interior Design Technology programs are getting hands-on experience at several Habitat for Humanity initiatives in the Edmonton area. For the past three weeks, 133 students have applied their theoretical knowledge to various construction and design projects within the Edmonton area.  This is the first year that Habitat for Humanity volunteer work has been incorporated into the program’s curriculum, with students being required to complete 32 hours at a work site.

WHERE: Habitat for Humanity St.Albert Construction Site
                 37 & 39 Norelle Terrace

WHEN: Tuesday, November 17th, 2009
               1 pm - 2 pm

WHY: Families across Edmonton face the dilemma of choosing between buying groceries, buying winter boots, or paying the rent. Habitat for Humanity Edmonton’s goal is to defeat this dilemma by providing affordable housing for families in Edmonton and the surrounding area.  NAIT’s Architectural Technology program recognizes the invaluable practical experience their students receive on Habitat for Humanity work sites and takes pride knowing that their efforts will help low-income Edmontonians realize their dream of home ownership.  It’s a win-win.
