NAIT wins 12 medals at culinary competition in Dubai
Team competed against professional chefs from around the world
Members of Culinary Team NAIT are returning to Canada with 12 medals after competing at Emirates Salon Culinaire in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The international competition ran Feb. 21-25.
Made up of students and recent graduates, the team was involved in two cooking competitions. They won two gold, six silver and four bronze medals, while competing against professional chefs from around the world.
Participants had 60 minutes to prepare an Asian Sea Bass and 60 minutes to prepare a beef dish, using only secondary cuts. Their dishes were evaluated on the basis of composition, originality, taste and presentation.
Culinary Team NAIT returns to NAIT on March 7.
• NAIT last competed at the Emirates Salon Culinaire in 2012, returning home with 10 medals, including six silver and four bronze.
• More than 1,300 young chefs are expected at this particular competition.
• Members of Culinary Team NAIT went through a competitive process to be selected to be part of the team. To be selected they must demonstrate aptitude, a positive attitude and a willingness to learn.
