NAIT names new dean of JR Shaw School of Business

Tracey Scarlett is the former CEO of Alberta Women Entrepreneurs

Tracey Scarlett has been named dean of NAIT’s JR Shaw School of Business, one of western Canada’s largest business schools. A prominent and successful entrepreneur, the former CEO of Alberta Women Entrepreneurs starts her new role at NAIT today.

Scarlett has a wide and varied background that touches virtually all aspects of NAIT’s business, from health care to trades to research.

Scarlett graduated from NAIT’s Medical Laboratory Technology program in 1987 and went on to earn her Bachelor of Science and a Master of Business Administration with a specialization in technology commercialization at the University of Alberta.

She has worked in lab and research environments, co-owned an electrical contracting company and was chief operating officer of a start-up biotechnology company. She was president of BioQuest Ventures Inc., a business development company specializing in the high-growth and innovation sector, before joining Alberta Women Entrepreneurs (AWE) in 2007. AWE is a not-for-profit organization offering business advising and lending programs, peer support, mentorship and other services to women entrepreneurs.

Scarlett was named one of NAIT’s Top 50 Alumni in 2012, as part of the polytechnic’s 50th anniversary.
