Polytechnics Canada conference focuses on building innovation and skills

EDMONTON – Leaders from 13 polytechnic institutions across Canada gathered at NAIT June 1 to discuss innovations in polytechnic education. This year’s theme was Building Canada Through Skills and Innovation.
The annual conference focused on the nation’s priorities in its 150th year – building innovation and skills. Across the country, polytechnic institutes train the next generation of workers who will build Canada, growing its productivity and prosperity.

Attendees heard from key thought and industry leaders including keynote speaker Jamie Merisotis, CEO of the Lumina Foundation – one of the largest private foundations in the U.S. focused on increasing Americans’ success in higher education. They discussed how to prepare students with the innovative skills needed for the workplace of the future, and how polytechnic education contributes to building Canada.

Other notable speakers included Iain Stewart, President of the National Research Council, Martha Hall Findlay, President and CEO of the Canada West Foundation, Barrie McKenna, columnist and correspondent with The Globe and Mail Ottawa Bureau and Kevin King of CAE Healthcare.
