Engineering students to craft rope suspension bridges across Whitemud Creek
Intense annual competition organized by NAIT's Construction Engineering Technology program
EDMONTON – Teams of NAIT students and alumni are gearing up for the 44th annual bridge building competition Saturday.
Eight teams of 15 competitors each, with at least one woman per team, will construct rope suspension bridges across Whitemud Creek in Whitemud Park. Each competitor must cross the creek and return before the bridges are dismantled. In one crossing, the teams will simulate saving an injured colleague. The team that finishes in the shortest time wins the event.
Competitors include students from the Construction Engineering Technology, Civil Engineering Technology and Engineering Design and Drafting programs, and alumni working in industry.
This is a fast-paced, dramatic race and the competition is fierce. Each team will also donate 50 pounds of food to the Edmonton Food Bank.
