Students band together to help save Stan

EDMONTON – No matter the institution, Stan is the patient. From a broken arm, to a baby on the way, to a gunshot wound, it’s up to students from 24 different health-care fields to work together to treat him.

The Help Save Stan event – which takes place simultaneously at NAIT and the University of Alberta – presents challenging simulation scenarios incorporating mannequins, simulated patients and volunteers from emergency services agencies to create realistic hospital and community environments. Inter-professional student teams collaborate in the scenarios with a focus on communication and teamwork.

Media are invited to view the various simulations and talk to students and facilitators about how this partnership gives more than 700 Edmonton post-secondary students the chance to learn together in an environment that models the real-world health care system.

Help Save Stan is a joint initiative between Alberta Health Services, MacEwan University, NAIT, NorQuest College and the University of Alberta.
