Explore a trade, build a longboard, or fly a drone at NAIT Summer Camps

In addition to its popular sports, recreation and culinary camps, NAIT introduces longboard construction, drone building and "Journey Girls" career camps

EDMONTON – NAIT’s 2018 summer camps begin next week, with dozens of fun options for kids aged 5 to 17 running to the end of August. New this year are:

  • Intro to Drone Building and Racing camp for teens aged 14 to 17, who will build, solder, program and fly their own drone. (July 3-6)
  • Journey Girls camp, which gives girls aged 11 to 14 a chance to experience hands-on activities in the trades. Campers will walk a steel beam on NAIT”s ironwork simulator, operate a crane and make a sprinkler. (July 16-20)
  • Longboard Construction camp, for teens aged 14 to 17, using machining skills to produce and assemble the longboard truck and wheel assembly, then creating the deck in NAIT’s carpentry/millwork shop. (July 9-13, July 16-20, July 30-August 3)
  • 3D Creator camp (July 30-Aug.3) is also back, teaching teens aged 14 to 17 to design and build an electronics prototype using computer-aided drafting and a 3D printer.
  • Digital media camps include filmmaking, photography, web design, computer game design, anime drawing, animation and stop-motion animation. Recreation camps include the girls-only G-Force camps, boy-only Fun Fitness camps, street performers camps and sport Olympics camps. Sports camps include hockey, badminton, volleyball and basketball.

Other highlights:

  • Rad Camp Extreme – (July3-6, 9-13, 16-20, July 30-Aug.3, Aug. 13-17, Aug. 20-24) Kids aged 9 to 12 go skateboarding, paintballing, rock climbing and more.
  • Youth In Design – (Aug. 7-10) Kids aged 10-14 spend half the day learning about interior design and architecture, and the other half in games and activities, including swimming, in NAIT’s recreational facilities.
  • Culinary Camps – Junior Chefs and Junior Bakers camps for kids and teens aged 7-9, 10-12 and 12-14 are held throughout the summer.
