Intense annual competition organized by NAIT's Construction Engineering Technology program

EDMONTON – Teams of NAIT students and alumni are gearing up for the 45th annual bridge-building competition Saturday.

Seven student teams and four corporate teams, each with between 10 and 15 members will construct rope suspension bridges across Whitemud Creek in Whitemud Park. Each competitor must cross the creek and return before the bridges are dismantled. In one crossing, the teams will simulate saving an injured colleague. The team that finishes in the shortest time wins the event.

Competitors include students from the Construction Engineering Technology, Civil Engineering Technology and Engineering Design and Drafting programs, along with Clark Builders, Jen-Col Construction, Filmore Construction Management and PCL.

This is a fast-paced, dramatic race and the competition is fierce. Each team will also donate 50 pounds of food to the Edmonton Food Bank.

9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
