NAIT offers Alberta’s first-ever Android development certificate
NAIT’s Computer Training Centre is launching Alberta’s first Android Developer Certificate program, which will provide students with the skills necessary to develop their own apps and games on the Android platform. The Android operating system is the world’s best-selling smartphone platform.
“This is an exciting program that reflects NAIT’s on-going commitment to providing students with the most relevant skills possible,” said Surinder Padem, NAIT Computer Training Centre program manager. “Participants taking this certificate will gain extensive knowledge of the Android platform and will leave with the ability to design, develop and deploy their own apps and games.”
The part-time, eight-course certificate covers programming, design strategies for mobile devices, Java and Android fundamentals, web applications and more. Previous programming experience is an asset.
The first two-day course, called Programming: Application Development, begins April 10. Students will be introduced to programming design decisions, structures and logic, as well as object-oriented programming.
The final course, Android Programming: Project, wraps up in July. In this course, students will demonstrate their knowledge of Android Software development. With instructor-supplied guidelines, they will design, develop and present an application that could potentially be submitted to Android Market, an online software store developed by Google for Android-based apps.
Last March, NAIT introduced Alberta’s first Apple iPhone/iPad Developer Certificate. In this program, students develop proper programming practices and an understanding of the Apple programming philosophy.
