Sparks will fly at demonstration of Japanese sword blade forging

WHY: There will be plenty of sparks, fire and smoke as David and Shawn create a Japanese sword blade using a traditional coal-fired forge, working at temperatures of over 2500 F. The pair will hand-hammer the white-hot steel on an anvil in this impressive demonstration.
David will be in Edmonton to lead a Japanese Sword Blade Forging class at NAIT. The popular Continuing Education course, now in its second year, runs Friday, June 1 to Saturday, June 2. To register for the classes, please click here.
David initially studied blade forging in the United States, first learning the craft of knife making and Damascus steel fabrication. He continued his studies and learned Japanese sword forging in Japan. Today, David travels across the world demonstrating his skills and teaching others the art of Japanese swordsmithing.
