NAIT names new associate vice-president of finance
Jeff Dumont has been named NAIT’s new associate vice president, finance and corporate services.
Dumont spent the last five years as assistant auditor general with the Office of the Auditor General of Alberta, where his portfolio included the Ministries of Agriculture and Rural Development, Education, Energy, Infrastructure, Transportation, Treasury Board & Finance, and most directly related, Enterprise and Advanced Education. He has overseen the financials for all of Alberta’s major post-secondary institutions, including NAIT.
“We are very excited to welcome Jeff to NAIT as a member of the senior management team,” said Dr. Ray Block, vice-president administration and chief financial officer. “He brings with him years of experience in accounting and financial leadership, and he has a critical understanding of Alberta’s post-secondary system. His experience will be invaluable as NAIT continues to grow in serving the needs and aspirations of Albertans.”
The AVP finance and corporate services is responsible for providing strategic direction to the executive team and Board of Governors over financial operations and financial risk management.
“It’s a great time to be coming to NAIT,” said Dumont. “In the many years I’ve audited in the Advanced Education sector, it’s been a very well-run organization. NAIT is also growing and has an exciting future. This is a great opportunity.”
NAIT’s selection committee included nine individuals from across the institute, who considered a wide range of both internal and external candidates.
“The selection committee was very pleased with the high caliber of candidates for this position, both internally and externally,” said Block. “We believe this speaks volumes to how highly NAIT is regarded in the community. We are confident Jeff will be a great fit for this challenging and critical position for many years to come.”
Dumont joined the Office of the Auditor General of Alberta in 1991 as an articling student and progressed to manager of audits. He left in 1996 to join KPMG, where he progressed to senior manager. Dumont rejoined the Auditor General of Alberta in 2000. His education includes a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Alberta and he is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants. He also completed the Directors Education Program in 2011 and is currently completing his board experience requirements to get his ICD.D designation, which is granted by the Institute of Corporate Directors, a not-for-profit, member-based association promoting the effectiveness of Canadian directors and boards.
Dumont started his new job Feb. 4.
