Alberta Blue Cross boosts first-year students toward academic success
NAIT students are getting a big boost toward their academic success thanks to a long-term pledge of support from the Alberta Blue Cross. Through NAIT’s Scholarships and Bursaries program, five bursaries, valued at $1,000 each, will be awarded annually to first-year students based on academic merit and financial need.
Over the next decade alone, this amounts to $50,000 worth of scholarships.
“These bursaries are vitally important for many students attending NAIT,” said April Grindheim, Scholarships and Bursaries Coordinator at NAIT. “Our partnership with Alberta Blue Cross ensures that students are able to concentrate on their academic goals without financial worries.”
Although NAIT’s tuition fees are among the lowest of post-secondary institutions in Alberta, they can still create hardship for many students. Last year, NAIT disbursed $4.3 million in scholarships and bursaries, impacting the lives of more than 3,600 students.
“Alberta Blue Cross has a long-standing and very positive relationship with NAIT,” said Brian Geislinger, vice-president of corporate relations with Alberta Blue Cross. “We’re very pleased to play a part in supporting NAIT as it prepares young people with the skills they need to not only build successful futures for themselves, but to build the future of our province.”
Alberta Blue Cross employs NAIT graduates in areas ranging from information technology to business administration.
Over 7,000 students graduated at NAIT’s 2012 Convocation held last May. NAIT’s dedicated staff and faculty strive to help students pursue a real-world education. Partnerships with organizations, such as Alberta Blue Cross, aid students to gain access to rewarding careers that are in demand by industry.
