Magnetic Resonance students gain Insight with $500,000 donation
Insight Medical Imaging has donated the use of equipment valued at $500,000 in support of NAIT’s Magnetic Resonance (MR) program. NAIT’s partnership with Insight Medical Imaging, which began in July 2001, allows students to gain practical lab experience using Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) equipment off-site with access to technical support.
Established in 2001 as the first of its
kind in Alberta, NAIT’s MR program currently trains up to 16 students each
year. As a part of the curriculum, students in the program must complete 20
hours of off-site lab time, acquiring knowledge and skills, such as anatomy,
patient care, communication and safety.
“We
are very fortunate to have industry support from partners like Insight Medical
Imaging,” said Craig Briggs, associate chair of the Magnetic Resonance program.
“The opportunity for our MR students to learn on state-of-the-art equipment
under the supervision of experienced professionals is invaluable.”
Through the use of Insight Medical
Imaging’s equipment in the evening when patients are not present, students gain
experience in a real-world setting. As a long-standing partner of NAIT, Insight
Medical Imaging has helped train students in the diagnostic imaging programs,
which also include Combined Laboratory and X-Ray Technology, Medical Laboratory
Technology, and Diagnostic Medical Sonography.
“Insight
Medical Imaging is a proud partner of NAIT,” said Larry Schindel, CEO of
Insight Medical Imaging. “As an employer
of first choice, we recognize our responsibility in helping to train future
healthcare workers and provide the practical experience necessary in their
development. We value this partnership and the opportunity to work with these
incredible young people.”
Students who graduate from the program are
high in demand and learn to function in diverse settings from busy trauma
centres to outpatient clinics. The partnership with Insight Medical Imaging ensures
that NAIT is able to meet Alberta’s current and emerging needs for
technology-based education.
