Tetra Tech, BNG partnership supports Green Chemistry and Engineering
NAIT can now focus more of its applied research activities on oil sands environmental sustainability, thanks to Tetra Tech, BNG. Over the next five years, the company will commit $125,000 toward NAIT’s Green Chemistry and Engineering (GCE) program facilitated through novaNAIT.
With the support of Tetra Tech, BNG, novaNAIT will use green chemistry and engineering to find breakthrough solutions that demonstrate environmental responsibility, cost-effective oil sands development and cleaner energy production.
“The generous donation by BNG, as well as the company’s continued support of the applied research activities, has added great value to the work of NAIT’s GCE,” said David Carpenter, associate vice president for novaNAIT. “It has provided resources for key projects and strategies, illustrating how a small and medium enterprise can have an impact on innovation.”
NAIT’s first applied research chair, Dr. Haneef Mian, leads the research team and works closely with students and industry partners to develop products and practices that prevent waste, eliminate toxicity, minimize raw material and energy costs, and improve safety for oil sands operators and their suppliers.
“Tetra Tech, BNG is very proud to be associated with the NAIT Green Chemistry and Engineering program and the tremendous work within the department.” said Ryan Bischoff, president.
Through the support of industry leaders, such as Tetra Tech, BNG, NAIT has committed towards becoming a leader in GCE education, applied research and industrial collaboration with a strong focus on oil sands tailings management and measurement technologies.
