NAIT students provide Canadian Western Bank with innovative design ideas
Second-year NAIT student Jason Ness is the winner of the fourth annual Architectural Technology Design Contest, sponsored by the Canadian Western Bank Group (CWB Group).
NAIT Architectural Technology students were asked to design an innovative and functional bank branch that incorporated concepts of environmental sustainability. Ness’ design, inspired by the notion of transition, won first place.
“This is the fourth year Canadian Western Bank has partnered with NAIT on this initiative, and the submissions just keep getting better and better every year,” said Michael Halliwell, a senior vice president and regional general manager with CWB Group. “This program provides an excellent opportunity for students to showcase their knowledge, creativity and design skills in preparation for entry into the local workforce.”
During a reception on Thursday night at NAIT, CWB Group awarded cash prizes totaling $8,500 to the Top 10 design entries. Design features from winning entries will be considered in the construction of future branches in the Edmonton area. Entries were judged based on concept, aesthetics, functionality, sustainability and corporate identity. The judging panel included representatives from Canadian Western Bank, as well as N53 Architecture Inc.
“Congratulations to the winners and to all who participated,” said Kevin Porter, chair of Environmental Design Technology at NAIT. “As a leading polytechnic, NAIT prides itself on providing students with valuable, hands-on experiences and opportunities to work directly with industry. We appreciate the opportunity to once again partner with Canadian Western Bank.”
