NAIT welcomed into CFA Institute University Recognition Program
NAIT has become the first polytechnic in Canada to be welcomed into the CFA Institute University Recognition Program.
NAIT’s Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree program with finance emphasis has been acknowledged as incorporating at least 70 per cent of the CFA Program Candidate Body of Knowledge and placing emphasis on the CFA Institute Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice within the program. This program positions students well to obtain the Chartered Financial Analyst designation, which has become the most respected and recognized investment credential in the world.
Entry into the CFA Institute University Recognition Program signals to potential students, employers, and the marketplace that the BBA-finance emphasis curriculum is closely tied to professional practice and is well-suited to preparing students to sit for the CFA examinations. Through participation in this program, NAIT is eligible to receive a limited number of student scholarships for the CFA Program each year.
“Students in these programs study the Candidate Body of Knowledge, which includes the core knowledge, skills, and abilities identified by practitioners worldwide as essential for successful practice,” said Dr. Charles Appeadu, head of University Relations at CFA Institute. “By mastering the fundamentals of the CFA Program as well as the Code of Ethics and Standards of Professional Conduct, these future investment professionals gain a strong foundation that helps prepare them well to join the growing CFA Institute community dedicated to promoting the highest standards of ethics, education, and professional excellence for the ultimate benefit of society.”
Students in NAIT’s BBA finance emphasis program develop a combination of advanced financial expertise and management skills for careers in the financial services field. The degree focuses on experiential learning, including the use of simulations, interactive case studies and applied research assignments. Critical thinking, communication and teamwork skills are also key objectives. Graduates of this program generally find employment at many different levels within the financial services industry, including financial planning, advising, consulting, business analysis and wealth management.
“We’re very pleased to be recognized by the CFA Program,” said Tad Drinkwater, dean of NAIT’s JR Shaw School of Business. “This speaks to NAIT’s commitment to providing students with new opportunities to learn in an environment of excellence. As one of Western Canada’s largest business schools, we want to ensure our graduates have the skills necessary to pursue meaningful careers and have an immediate impact.”
The Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) is a leading Canadian polytechnic, delivering education in science, technology and the environment; business; health and trades.
