NAIT expanding summer culinary courses to include chocolate boot camp
NAIT is the place to be this summer for Edmonton foodies. Responding to demand, NAIT Continuing Education has introduced a chocolate boot camp to its roster of summer culinary courses, which also includes the return of the popular culinary and pastry boot camps.
Dressed in culinary uniforms – including camouflage scarves, aprons and hats - boot camp participants will work daily with NAIT chefs, learning professional tips and techniques.
“Our boot camps are among our most popular Continuing Education programs,” said Nancy Milakovic, Business and Hospitality project manager. “It’s rewarding to see people at all levels of culinary ability ‘graduate’ from these programs with confidence and enthusiasm - everyone takes something away. Our newest camp, For the Love of Chocolate, is going to be really exciting because we are teaching both sweet and savory offerings. Students will have an opportunity to really stretch their culinary muscles with this one.”
- For The Love of Chocolate Boot Camp runs July 15-18, eight hours per day. Campers delve into all things chocolate, making bon bons, salmon mole, chocolate centre pieces and delicate petite gateau.
- Pastry Boot Camp runs July 7-11. This is an intensive, five-day, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. experience that captures the fundamental techniques of all things pastry.
- Culinary Boot Camp runs July 8 -11 and July 15-18. Campers learn to prepare vegetables, starches, meats, fish and poultry, and receive professional tips on poaching, braising, roasting and grilling.
NAIT Continuing Education offers more than 50 non-credit culinary courses every year, including Cupcake Making Fundamentals, Artisan Bread Making and Holiday Entertaining. These courses attract a wide range of participants, ranging from home cooks to professional chefs.
NOTE TO MEDIA: NAIT Culinary Arts instructor Norm Brownlee, who is leading the chocolate boot camp, is available for interviews and on-camera demonstrations. Media are welcome to cover any of the July boot camps.
