Students to construct rope suspension bridges across Whitemud Creek
Teams of NAIT students and alumni, as well as representatives of the construction industry and the University of Alberta Engineering Student Club, are gearing up for the 41st annual Bridge Building Competition.
Eight to 10 teams of 15 competitors each, with at least two women per team, will construct rope suspension bridges across Whitemud Creek. Each competitor must cross the creek and return before the bridges are dismantled. In one crossing, the teams will simulate saving an injured colleague. The team that finishes in the shortest time wins the event.
This is a fast-paced, dramatic race and the competition is fierce. Some teams choose to wear costumes, which add to the fun of the event. Students will also be supporting the Food Bank at this event.
