Bachelor of Technology in Construction Management degree launched
EDMONTON – Responding to industry demand, the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT), one of Canada’s leading polytechnics, has launched Alberta’s first Bachelor of Technology in Construction Management degree program. The first students began class this week.
Students with a previous two-year diploma in a related area (most notably Construction Engineering Technology), can earn a degree with an additional two years of study. A pathway will be launched in the near future for certified tradespeople.
This construction management degree is one of only a handful of similar programs in Canada, and the first of its kind in Alberta with the two-plus-two format, offering a two-year diploma followed by a two-year degree.
QUICK FACTS
• Graduates of the Bachelor of Technology in Construction Management program will be prepared for leadership roles in the heavy industrial, commercial, engineering and construction industries.
• Courses are being offered part-time, in the evening and weekends, with a full-time option to be introduced.
• There are 30 students in the initial intake.
• Overall, 92% of NAIT graduates find work within months of graduation from full-time programs.
• 99% of employers would hire a NAIT grad again.
QUOTES
Dr. Neil Fassina, NAIT provost and VP academic
“This new degree program is a great example of how NAIT continues to respond to industry needs by providing grads that will be ready to hit the ground running with valuable skills in a career of their choice – in this case, for management in the construction industry.”
Dr. Faisal Arain, associate dean, School of Sustainable Building and Environmental Management
“This program fills the void construction companies have long identified in Alberta and across the country. Industry has been waiting for this degree for some time. There is already a shortage of professionals in project management, which will worsen as more people retire from industry in the coming years.”
