NAIT students develop innovative bank design ideas
EDMONTON – Second-year Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) student Leah Kinsella is the winner of the fifth annual Architectural Technology design contest, sponsored by Kasian Architecture Interior Design and Planning Ltd.
NAIT Architectural Technology students were asked to design an innovative and functional bank branch that incorporated concepts of environmental sustainability. Kinsella’s design was inspired by the links between the land, the community and the history of Lethbridge and its surrounding area.
During a reception on last night at the polytechnic, Kasian awarded cash prizes totaling $1,750 to the top three design entries.
Kinsella received $750 for her design, while second place winner Salam Yousef received $500. Tied for third place were Kendal da Costa and Jasmine Tello who each received $250. The other finalists were Erica Paal, Dean Maglanlan, Kirk Lawrence, Rachelle Larsen, Fei Feng and Peter James Elima.
• The branch design was done for a fictional bank (Northbank) on a site located in downtown Lethbridge, AB.
• The submissions went through two rounds of judging.
• Entries were judged based on concept, aesthetics, functionality, sustainability and corporate identity.
