NAIT names new business school dean
Dr. Russell Currie starts July 2; comes to NAIT from Thompson Rivers University
Currie comes to NAIT from Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops, where he was dean of business and a professor. Previously, Russell served as the senior academic and research officer for the University of British Columbia (Okanagan). In addition to this role, Russell was the founding member of the Faculty of Management and served as associate dean and acting dean at UBC. Russell returned to academics after a four year hiatus as CEO of a database management systems company.
Russell is passionate about developing leaders who have relevant work-ready skills and a keen sense of social responsibility. He is committed to promoting the intellectual, economic, social and environmental benefits that life-long education brings to individuals and to communities.
Currie replaces interim dean, Tad Drinkwater, who retires this month.

“We want to have students walk out with work-ready skills, yet also having a sense of social responsibility to their communities. Producing business and government leaders who excel in their job is not enough. They should – they must – give something back to their community.”
Dr. Neil Fassina, provost and vice president academic
“Dr. Currie brings a wealth of experience as a senior administrator and as an academic. With his knowledge of business schools, his expertise and his professionalism, he’ll be an ideal leader for the school as it continues to make its mark in Western Canada and beyond.”
