Drafted by the Los Angeles Kings in 2001, Mike's career took him around the world to play in the Finnish Elite League, Sweden and North America including time spent with the Edmonton Oilers organization playing with their AHL team Springfield Falcons. Gabinet has coaching in his blood being the grandson of coaching legend Clare Drake, who is recognized as one of the leading hockey minds of all time. Gabinet is excited to share his knowledge and experiences as a student and professional athlete with players as head coach. He will be instrumental in ensuring student-athlete success at NAIT.
“I thoroughly enjoyed working with Serge to build a successful program,” said Gabinet. “I am extremely excited to continue working with our team and coaching staff to enrich this elite post-secondary hockey program.”
NAIT’s Director of Athletics and Recreation Linda Henderson looks forward to Gabinet taking over the NAIT men’s hockey program.
“Mike is an excellent choice in being named as NAIT's next head coach,” said Henderson. "He has worked tirelessly as the program's associate coach over the past three years. Mike is very well respected by the league, the student-athletes and by NAIT administration. He has very sound technical and tactical knowledge and is committed to a program of excellence.
