Students to construct rope suspension bridges across Whitemud Creek
Annual competition organized by NAIT’s Construction Engineering Technology program
Teams of NAIT students and alumni are gearing up for the 42nd annual bridge building competition.
Eight to 10 teams of 15 competitors each, with at least two women per team, will construct rope suspension bridges across Whitemud Creek, located in Whitemud Park. Each competitor must cross the creek and return before the bridges are dismantled. In one crossing, the teams will simulate saving an injured colleague. The team that finishes in the shortest time wins the event.
This is a fast-paced, dramatic race and the competition is fierce. Some teams choose to wear costumes, which adds to the fun of the event. Each team will also donate 50 pounds of the food to the Edmonton Food Bank.
