Below are some of the items we reccommend you take with you when you come to Canada. Keep in mind clothing can be purchased in Canada upon arrival.
Documents
What to Bring on the Plane
- Passport
- Entry Visa
- Study Permit
- Work Permit if applicable
- prescription medication (please keep it in its original packaging, along with the prescription from a physician)
What to Bring In Your Luggage
- marriage certificate, if your spouse is accompanying you
- high school/university transcripts with course descriptions in English if possible
- copy of your IELTS, TOEFL, CAEL, or CLBA scores if applicable
- your children's school records, if your children are accompanying you
- medical and immunization records if you have them
- driver's licence or international driver's licence if you have one
- driving insurance records if you have them
Clothing
Edmonton has four distinct seasons: spring, summer, fall and winter:
- spring can be wet, with some warm days
- summer is very hot with temperatures reaching +30°C
- fall can be windy and chilly
- winter is cold with temperatures reaching -30°C
If you are arriving in fall or winter, you might want to bring the following items:
- Sweater
- Hat (in Canada, we call it a tuque)
- Warm coat
- Warm boots
- Scarf
- Mittens or insulated gloves
If you need to buy any clothing items, it is best to wait until you arrive in Canada.
