Services for Students with Disabilities

Shared Responsibilities

The provision of services to students with disabilities is a collaborative effort. NAIT faculty, staff, and students work together to arrange and provide SSD services.

Example:

  • A student meets with an SSD Advisor 4-6 months before the school year starts.

  • The student and SSD Advisor work together to create a service plan that outlines the services the student will be able to access.

  • The SSD Advisor coordinates the SSD services that will be available to the student, and notifies the student's program.

  • Program staff notify the student's instructors.

  • The student follows established NAIT procedures to access each desired service.

  • SSD staff and service providers collaborate with NAIT faculty and staff to deliver the services the student chooses to access.

Duty to Accommodate

NAIT staff have a legal responsibility to provide accommodations to students with disabilities. For information, go to Duty to Accommodate.

Likewise, students have a responsibility to access SSD services by following procedures established by NAIT. These procedures ensure all students with disabilities have access to consistent and efficiently delivered SSD services. For details, please review Student Responsibilities.
