JR Shaw School of Business is a proven leader
JR Shaw School of Business harnesses the power of a polytechnic providing relevant, multi-disciplinary business education integrated with industry partnerships and applied research.
We are among the first in North America to offer a technology to degree pathway that provides an opportunity for students with a variety of credentials to enter their third year of business degree studies. We are the first polytechnic to be welcomed into the CFA Institute University Recognition Program. We also partner to offer credentials in other professional designations and industry certifications.
A JR Shaw School of Business education fosters entrepreneurship and innovation, equipping students with the essential skills necessary to make a difference in Alberta and across Canada. We have more than 4,200 students immersed in real-world business studies in several degree and diploma programs allowing people to choose the path that best fits their career goals.
What makes us different?
It’s business and only business from the first day of studies to graduation.
Important supporting disciplines, such as philosophy and mathematics, are blended into classes, giving both the depth and breadth of thought, such as critical thinking and creativity, expected from a relevant business degree.
We have more than 100 full-time faculty members with qualifications ranging from PhDs to professional designations, such as CPA, who bring their industry experience to the classroom.
Our commitment to delivering business learning during every term of study means our students have more access to business-focused faculty who can share their diverse expertise and perspectives. Our faculty create an engaging learning environment that fosters creativity and collaboration and motivates students to achieve their potential.
Our faculty’s commitment to student success is shown by the many students who, long after they graduate, continue to seek advice or share success stories, such as promotions, with former instructors, thereby extending the JR Shaw School family connection.
Where we’ve come from
NAIT has a history of delivering business education dating back to 1964.
That first year drew 50 students. Since that time, NAIT has grown to become one of the largest business schools in Western Canada with diplomas in business administration, accounting, finance, human resource management, management and marketing. We have offered a Bachelors of Applied Business Administration (BBA) – Accounting since 2001 and expanded to offer a BBA – Finance in 2004. A Bachelors of Business Administration was launched in 2008.

We proudly became the JR Shaw School of Business in 2007, named in honour of an outstanding Canadian business leader.
