The one-year Baking Certificate trains students in traditional and contemporary baking methods. NAIT Baking graduates are in high demand and are recognized nationally for their expertise, self-confidence, flexibility and skills.
The program provides hands-on experience in the art and science of bread, cake and pastry production, as well as the many aspects of cake decorating. This practical knowledge is complemented by training in:
- baking theory
- trade calculations
- business concepts
A 3-week work experience component allows students to put their new skills to work in a commercial bakery. Many graduates are offered jobs at one of their work experience sites.
Students who successfully complete the Baking Certificate can choose to write the journeyman baker exam. To become a certified journeyman baker, students must complete additional required employment hours.
