Innovation Series Winter 2010

From February through May, novaNAIT and the Business Link are presenting the third edition of the Innovation Series, which consists of four one-hour presentations.

The series provides novaNAIT an opportunity to educate faculty, staff, and people from the community about innovation and the commercialization pathway, as well as the services novaNAIT offers. 

 

Title: Finding Commercial Value through Innovation
Speaker:   Beverly Sheridan; President of Technology NOW

Developing an idea from concept through to implementation can be a lengthy process. That is why it is critical for new innovators to understand the commercial merit of an idea before pursuing it. A proper feasibility analysis can help establish the commercial value of a product or service. Learn how to conduct a feasibility analysis and what should be considered when determining the proper commercialization pathway.

 

Title: Building Business Models that Work

During the commercialization process, you want to develop your business to maximize the value of its products or services. Known as “business modeling”, this session will address business development fundamentals such as: business planning, financial planning, manufacturing, marketing, and management structure.

 

Title: Conducting Research and Development

Research and development (R&D) is an important consideration of most technology companies and how well it is done is often a determinant for success or failure. So how do you conduct R&D? Who should do it and when should it be outsourced? How much will it cost? This session will explore these questions and help you create an R&D plan.


 

Title: Structuring a Win-Win Deal

Deal structuring is not a trivial consideration for an early stage business. The reality is that poor deal structure will often make or break a business. Whether it be for financing, licensing, a buy-out, or a strategic alliance understanding how, when and why deals are made is important. Learn about how to do your due diligence, determine what makes a “good” deal, and how to structure your company at an early stage.
