Locker Rentals

A. Locker Rentals

  1. A limited number of lockers are available for rental throughout the academic year. To secure a locker, students must use the online rental system, must be actively registered in courses and must abide by the procedures, terms and conditions outlined below. Rental agreements are established by NAIT administration and NAIT reserves the right to terminate a rental agreement at its discretion for any campus security violations, student misconduct and/or breach of the stated rental terms and conditions.
  2. To ensure the selected locker is near the student’s classroom, students should wait until they have received their timetable before choosing their locker.

B. Rental Rates

Apprenticeship Programs (various lengths from 5 weeks to 12 weeks)
Wide Locker $17.85 (GST included) per training period (Souch Campus only)
Full Locker $14.70 (GST included) per training period
Half Locker $7.35 (GST included) per training period
Welder Technician, Parts and Materials Certificate programs (18 and 20 weeks)
Full Locker $36.75 (GST included) per training period
Half Locker $18.38 (GST included) per training period
Pre-Employment Machinist Certificate program, Diesel Technician Certificate Program, Industrial Mechanic Technician Program, Machining Technician Program, and Steamfitter / Pipefitting Technician Certificate Program (24 week)
Full Locker $44.10 (GST included) per training period
Half Locker $22.05 (GST included) per training period
All other Full-Time and Continuing Education students
Full Locker $29.40 (GST included) per term
Half Locker $14.70 (GST included) per term
  1. Locker rental rates are subject to change and are effective as of the start of the term/period the locker is rented. No refunds will be issued for any locker payments that have been received. Lockers are non-transferrable between students.
  2. The rates above are for locker rental only. Students must provide their own locks and assume sole responsibility for any damages to the locks that may be incurred.
  3. Disclaimer, as outlined in NAIT's Academic Regulations and Procedures:
    Although NAIT provides a safe educational environment, thefts from lockers and other areas do occur. Goods may also be vandalized, damaged or lost. Students and other individuals attending classes or visiting NAIT for any reason whatsoever are solely responsible for their goods and belongings. NAIT shall not be responsible for theft or loss of any goods for any reason. It is the responsibility of the student or other individuals to ensure that their goods are stored safely and that their owner's or tenant's insurance policy provides for replacement of goods or possessions that may be stolen, vandalized, damaged or lost. The best insurance against loss is to leave articles that are not needed at home or for the student to carry valuables with them at all times. Valuables should never be left in lockers overnight.

C. Locker Availability

  1. NAIT students are not guaranteed a locker rental. A limited number of lockers are available to registered students and will be issued on a first-come, first-served basis.
  2. Lockers will be available for all students, including those in Continuing Education courses. At all times, locker rentals will be subject to availability.
  3. Students registered in Full-Time Day programs can rent a locker for each term the student is actively enrolled in. For Full-Time Day students, a term is defined as the Fall term, Winter term, Spring term or Summer term.
  4. 4. Students in Apprenticeship programs can rent a locker for each Period the student is enrolled in. A Period is defined as the start of the first day of class to the end of the last day of class.

D. Rental Procedures

  1. Lockers can be rented online though the student portal. Download Paying your Fees at NAIT (907K pdf) for step-by-step rental instructions.
  2. Once a locker has been selected for rental, payment for the locker must be received within 24 hours or the reservation will be cancelled and the selected locker will be returned to the rental pool.
  3. There is a 30 day period from the paid date of the locker, which allows students to change their locker. Please note if you are changing from a Full Locker to a Half Locker there is no refund. Changing from a Half Locker to a Full Locker, will require the difference in fees to be paid. There are no refunds on lockers.
  4. If you are a mobility-impaired student or have a documented disability requiring accessibility consideration(s), please contact the Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD) office to discuss your specific locker needs.

E. Terms & Conditions

  1. No refunds will be issued for any locker payments that have been received.
  2. Lockers are non-transferrable between students.
  3. There is a limit of one locker per student and sharing of lockers is not permitted.
  4. Possession of a rented locker can take place on or after the later of: a) the start date listed on the rental confirmation page, or b) the date payment has been made.
  5. Lockers must be vacated on or before the end date listed on the rental confirmation page unless the same locker has been rented for consecutive terms. It is highly recommended lockers be empty when NAIT is closed in December.
  6. If a locker remains occupied after the rental end date, the lock may be cut and locker contents emptied.
  7. If at any point in the rental period an unauthorized individual is occupying a locker, students can contact NAIT Protective Services. Students will need to produce a valid NAIT ID card as well as their locker confirmation page and rental receipt. If Protective Services determines that the locker is occupied by an unauthorized individual, the lock can be cut and locker contents emptied by authorized personnel.
  8. Unauthorized individuals occupying a locker will be charged $50 (including GST) to retrieve their items. Students can pay this fee at the Bookstore, Tech Store or Cash Office and are required to provide Protective Services with proof of payment.
  9. Items cleared from lockers will be held for up to a maximum of 30 days after which time the contents will be destroyed. For sanitary reasons, clothing and perishable items will immediately be destroyed.
  10. If at any point in the rental period a student requires their lock to be cut, the student can contact NAIT Protective Services. Students will need to produce a valid NAIT ID card as well as their locker confirmation page and rental receipt to verify that the locker belongs to them. A fee may be charged to cut the lock.
  11. Sponsored students (students whose educational fees are being paid for by a third party) must pay locker fees separately. Should a sponsored student be eligible for compensation of locker fees, the student will need to present their transaction receipt to their sponsor directly.

Anything maintained in NAIT space, including lockers, must be in accordance with the Alberta Human Rights Act, the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, all NAIT regulations, bylaws and policies and all applicable municipal, provincial and federal laws. Suspected violation of any terms and conditions can result in a locker search without notice or permission and the removal of locker contents. NAIT may in its discretion share the results of a locker search with the police authorities or other external bodies.
