To put it simply, the NAIT Ooks are the best team in Alberta college badminton, and by a large margin.
The powerful Ooks, recently returned from a holiday junket to Florida and Bahamas, compiled a 31-point margin over the second-place Concordia Thunder in ACAC tournament number 3.
Dan Kai and Jessica Yu were the foundation of the successful weekend.
They combined to win the mixed doubles championship, while Yu partnered Sinead Cheah for victory in women's doubles and Kai captured the men's singles crown.
NAIT's fourth victory came in men's doubles, where Jonathan Chang and Jason Chou played extremely well.
In his first event of the season, Chang, a fifth-year player, also shared a silver medal in mixed doubles.
"I wasn't sure what to expect in our first tournament after coming back from the south," said head coach Jordan Richey, "but obviously I'm happy with the result."
The Ooks used this competition as preparation for an upcoming event that will serve as qualifier for the national college championships. "The players are looking forward to nationals," Richey said.
If the team continues to perform at this level, NAIT should do extremely well on the national stage -- just as the team did last year.
