Management and Leadership Training

NAIT’s Management and Leadership workshops are designed for organizations looking to achieve their staff development, performance management, succession planning and business goals. Three streams are available - Supervisory, Managerial and Executive - and you can customize a training program that suits your needs.

A minimum of four workshops must be completed to receive a certificate. Each stream consists of at least four themes:

High Performance Teams
Obtain the knowledge and skills needed to build high performance teams using both established and contemporary models of team function.

    Coaching
For organizations facing competitive pressures, demand for continuous innovation, or an accelerating pace of change, coaching becomes a way to build links with your internal and external customers.

    Communication
Communication is the life-blood of leaders. Deciding how you create and deliver a message requires making decisions that affect its success. With new technology comes many new channels of communication. Are these used correctly? Could they bring more problems than benefits? Communication starts with knowing your audience and this workshop will focus on both verbal and written communication.

    Change Management
I All organizations go through change and a leader's role is to manage that change. This workshop will draw upon both established and contemporary models of change management and will provide an introduction to the knowledge and skills necessary for building a change ready organization.

    Leadership Philosophy and Style
Understanding what leadership is and how we choose the best leadership behaviours to motivate, support and engage our followers is fundamental to organizational success. This workshop introduces and refines the philosophy of leadership and the styles leaders use.

    Values and Ethics in Leadership
This workshop introduces values and ethics and helps participants to develop their own ethical stance. It builds on moral imagination and one's personal mission and vision statement to provide participants with a model to make good ethical decisions.

NAIT's expertise in management and leadership within both the post-secondary and corporate training environment is based on its unique work-integrated learning approach. Participants will acquire both the theoretical and practical know-how required to lead their organization's change, business and growth strategies.

    Clear and Concise Writing Workshops

    Writing Workshop I (The Basics)

Are you self-conscious about your writing, unsure of what is correct and why? This half-day workshop will provide you with simple strategies for avoiding common errors in agreement, pronoun case, pronoun reference, parallel structure, and sentence punctuation. You will also practice working with active and passive sentences to improve your writing style.

Writing Workshop II (Mechanics of Clear Writing)

Mechanical details in writing are seldom noticed when the writer has followed standard writing practices, but a misplaced comma, an unnecessary apostrophe, or a missing hyphen can distract, mislead, or frustrate readers. In this half-day workshop, you will review the correct use of commas, semicolons, colons, apostrophes, and hyphens. You will also practice applying the principles of capitalization and number style in everyday situations.

Writing Workshop III (Plain English Principles)

In this half-day workshop, you will learn strategies that professional writers use to clear away clutter from their messages. Topics include effective word choice, positive vs. negative language, logical sequencing of ideas, and correct use of numbered and bulleted lists. You will also practice spotting and correcting some common errors in sentence logic.

Writing Workshop IV (Letters, Memos, and E-mail)

How effective are the messages you write at work? Do they make you look competent and professional? Do they produce the desired results? In this half-day workshop, you will look at basic principles of business style, including proven strategies for delivering good news and bad news and for moving the reader to action. The workshop setting will provide you with hands-on practice in writing and editing, as well as opportunities to explore ideas with other participants.
